Dr Tao is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and dermatopathology. He earned his medical degree at Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai, China. He earned a PhD in neuroscience and cell biology at Rutgers University Graduate School, New Brunswick, NY, and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Graduate School of Biomedical Science, Piscataway, NJ. Dr Tao was a fellow in the Department of Dermatopathology at Boston University Medical Center from 2002 to 2004.
